I had just finished photographing Gladys Knight’s set at KBLX Soul Music Festival at Sleep Train Pavilion in Concord and I saw my friend, Debra, deep in the groove enjoying the music without anything distracting her. L-R: Tom Browne – trumpet, Fred Wesley – trombone, Mickala Cheadle – vocals The groove was tight on a Saturday night with Fred Wesley on trombone, Tom Browne on trumpet, Rodney Franklin on keyboard, Vernon Black on electric bass, and Mickala Cheadle and Omega Rae slamming on the vocals.
Ramsey Lewis and his Electric Band played Yoshi’s Oakland in May. I just recently saw the band at the Jazz Alley in Seattle. Both were totally awesome shows.
