I got to visit the new Bay Bridge Pedestrian/Bike trail and it was an awesome experience. I will definitely go back again. The highlight of the adventure was taking photos of both bridge spans as they exist today. The old span of the Bay Bridge will removed within 3 years but they are making lots of progress so it may be sooner. The pedestrian/bike trail is scheduled to expand to Yerba Buena Island later this year.

There are two points where you can access the Andrew Zuckermann Pedestrian Bike Path (Bay Bridge Trail). You can enter the trail across from IKEA in Emeryville or you can enter at Maritime Avenue and Burma Road in Oakland which was the most convenient entrance. They provide 5 hours of free parking.

Tips for the Trip:

  • Allow yourself 3 hours to walk up and back on the path.
  • Be sure to keep yourself hydrated but also keep in mind that there are no restrooms on the path.
  • Bring a jacket as it gets windy and cool on the path.
  • Bring a camera to capture the beauty of the new bridge.
