Some days, I am just glad that I brought my camera with me.
I had the pleasure of hearing Jimmy Scott twice in concert. This occasion at Yoshi’s Oakland and the other was a few years prior at the Herbst Theatre. Both nights were quite memorable but for different reasons. Anytime you get to see a legend perform, it is a blessing. When Jimmy performed at the Herbst Theatre a few years ago, Melody Gardot was the opening act. Jimmy had not been in the best of health for several years but when he came on stage, he was magical and gave the best show that he could. What was shocking and appalling was that people were leaving in moderate numbers during his performance. The audience for his last Yoshi’s performance in 2011 was much more reverent and attentive.
